GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. The term was introduced in a 2023 paper by researchers from Princeton University and other institutions. It means improving the visibility of companies and products in generative AI answers by optimizing content and information sources.
More and more customers ask AI assistants such as DeepSeek, Doubao and Kimi before choosing a product or service: "Who does this well?" "How should I choose?" Instead of a list of links, AI gives a direct answer that usually names only a few brands. If you are not in the answer, you are not on the shortlist.
GEO deals with four questions: does AI mention you, does it describe you correctly, does it recommend you, and does it cite your official information? It does not rely on ads. It makes sure AI can find accurate, credible, easy-to-cite information about you.
